Diving Deep: The Life and Times of Mike deGruy Set for Release in January 2021

Mike deGruy was a filmmaker, biologist and activist who wasn't afraid to push the boundaries of what human beings thought possible in order to explore the depths of the ocean. He had a passion for marine life and spent his life sharing that passion and documenting the extraordinary animals he grew to love.

While on assignment in Australia in 2012, deGruy tragically died in a helicopter accident.

“When Mike died, I felt like he left in mid-conversation, and I knew that he had so much more to say,” says his widow, Mimi deGruy. Mimi had been Mike’s filmmaking partner and after his death, she set out to find a way to continue his legacy by creating “Diving Deep.” After crowdsourcing, writing a script and serving as a producer and director she submitted the film to several festivals. In 2019, “Diving Deep” opened the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and won numerous awards on the film festival circuit, including Best Film at the Ocean Film Festival and Audience Favorite at the Aspen Mountain Film Festival.

Now for the first time, the film is set to be released on a mass scale through online streaming services, Apple TV and Amazon rentals.

The film features never-before-seen footage and commentary from deGruy’s friends and colleagues, including filmmaker James Cameron, National Geographic Explorer Sylvia Earle and British broadcaster Sir David Attenborough.
